JWC - Java Web Components

The JWC project here at Sourceforge is a place where coding for general web application components reside. At the moment, the particular focus is on creating components for the Google Web Toolkit. There are currently 3 sub-projects here.

News

  • 11/Jun/2007 - Version 0.2.1 released. This provides updates to the GWT rich text editing components, and a major overhaul of the general GWT components. The GWT-Spring integration component is also obsoleted in favour of the GWT Server Library.
  • 10/Jun/2007 - Following the release of GWT 1.4RC1, the JWC components are being refactored. In brief, the editor components will become standalone and no longer rely on the jwc-gwt-components package, while the components package will be heavily refactored, including an overhaul of the context event handling.
  • 1/Apr/2007 - Re-tested with GWT 1.3
  • 17/Sep/2006 - Release of 0.1.1. In particular, the FCK Editor is now supported by the HtmlTextArea? component, and some minor updates have been made.
  • 05/Sep/2006 - Initial public releases of all components at version 0.1.0. Downloads are available from Sourceforge

Components

Note that these modules are only compatible with GWT 1.4 and above. Users of previous versions should look at the older versions area.

The development of these components follows the development of the GWT framework itself. This project is currently at an alpha stage, and so no assumptions should be made about whether the component APIs will change within each of the modules.

Older versions

These versions remain on the site to provide compatibility for those developing against GWT 1.3 and below.

  • GWT - Components v0.1.1 - a project holding a number of components to replace and enhance standard GWT components
  • GWT - TinyMCE v0.1.1 - a project holding a plugin for the core component HtmlTextArea? to implement the rich text editing using the TinyMCE DHTML editor.
  • GWT - FCK Editor v0.1.1 - a project holding a plugin for the core component HtmlTextArea? to implement the rich text editing using the FCK Editor DHTML editor.

Obsolete

The following modules are now marked obsolete:

  • GWT - Spring v0.1.0 - a project containing components for the server-side RPC endpoints to allow them to be managed by and use the features of the Spring framework. This has been deprecated in favour of using the GWT Server Library instead, which provides a much cleaner implementation. The current JWC package is not compatible with GWT 1.4.
  • The TabPanel component of the GWT - Components v0.1.1 has been removed in v0.2.1 with no replacement. Instead, users are directed at the Rocket GWT library, which includes a more flexible TabPanel implementation

Currently, these modules work correctly with GWT 1.1.10, GWT 1.2.22 or GWT 1.3.3. When the GWT team release a new alpha or beta version of the framework, JWC components will be refactored to cope with any changes in the newer version of the core GWT toolkit. This may also mean removing/refactoring components if the standard GWT components begin to support the additional features that our components provide.
